2023-2024 Welcome Message

Greetings Heritage Community,

Welcome to the home of the “Heritage Hawks!”

We are an educational community that is committed to providing outstanding, research-based instruction that integrates multiple disciplines and strives to develop critical thinkers and problem solvers. The collective knowledge of both our veteran staff and new teachers provides opportunities for our team to model what it means to be lifelong learners. We value the “Whole Child” by honoring each individual’s uniqueness and ensuring that their needs are met academically, socially and emotionally. Heritage offers a strong Dual Immersion Program, an innovative Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) program, and is partnering with various organizations to develop a culture that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.

Staff members take responsibility for basing instruction on best practices by engaging in ongoing professional development through research, reading, and collaboration. Teachers are adept at using ongoing assessments and data to guide instruction. Emphasis is placed on adherence to grade level content standards, ongoing assessment, differentiation, integration of academic disciplines and grade level collaboration. Techniques, strategies, and results are shared with parents on an ongoing basis, thereby giving parents the opportunity to be true partners in the academic growth of their children.

As this new school year begins we are excited to open our doors to our families, to volunteers, for our special events to celebrate the diversity of our community of learners and to celebrate the student learning taking place on campus.  Welcome, Heritage Hawks!

Sincerely,

Mr. Romo, Principal

Dr. Schnitzer, Associate Principal

About the Area

Heritage School is a 70,000 square foot campus located along Santa Lucia Road in the Otay Ranch development of Chula Vista. It opened on July 10, 2001, and is currently home to about 800 students.

Heritage School represents a new prototype that reflects Chula Vista Elementary School District's progressive perspectives on educational facilities for the information age. The school's unique ''village-like atmosphere'' is the result of a planning process that included input from the community, educators, administrators, and maintenance personnel. The design includes expanded classroom square footage and auxiliary planning space due to the impact of class size reduction. The Heritage campus includes eight single-story structures, including an administration building, a multi-purpose building, a library, and seven classroom buildings. The village atmosphere of the campus fits beautifully with the surrounding residential neighborhoods.
