Principal's Corner

Heritage Hawk Families,
I have just completed my first week at Heritage Elementary School as the new Principal and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Daniel Santoyo Romo and I’ve been in education for twenty one years. I’ve worked in a variety of educational settings that range traditional public schools to progressive, project-based instructional models. I started my career with the Chula Vista Elementary School District and have made my way back home after eleven years. In that time, I’ve been a teacher with CVESD, the Department of Defense in Atsugi, Japan, and have been a founding teacher at High Tech Elementary in Chula Vista. My administrative career has taken me to K.I.P.P. San Diego as the Director of Innovation and assistant principal, then to King-Chavez Preparatory Academy as the leader and Principal. In all these experiences, one thing that has never changed has been my love for education and for providing the highest quality education for my students.
I was born and raised in San Diego in every city south of the 54 Freeway. I’ve lived in Chula Vista since I was in high school and continue to live here to this day. My wife and I are both educators and my three children are in elementary, middle and high school in our local schools. You will likely see me riding my bike to school and home, so please don’t hesitate to say, “Hello.”
This first week has been a great start to this new chapter in my life at Heritage Elementary. I’m amazed by the expertise and love that this staff shares with your children each day. They are truly dedicated to ensuring your children receive the best education. I’ve spent time shaking hands with parents each morning and have spent time getting to know your children at lunch time or out at the playground. This is an amazing community and I’m very proud to be a part of your child’s educational experience. Once again, I thank you so much for welcoming me to your community!
